Growing up in rural Arkansas I had no access to art education, yet I instinctively had a compulsion to create. It wasn't until I was an adult that I discovered my lifelong passion could also be my vocation. In 2009 I moved to Portland, OR to study art and develop as an artist in a community of creators.
Lighting is an important part of my paintings, and I use many materials to achieve dimension through light-play. Flat, matte backgrounds contrast with the gloss of oils and the fire of gold leaf, with bright lines dashing through that can either reflect or absorb light.
As a painter I have carried over the precision and techniques acquired in my years practicing bookbinding and intaglio. My experience with professional art restoration and bespoke art framing has greatly influenced my evolving style, along with the community of artists who challenge me.
